Dog barking being left in garden of empty house...what to do?
There is a dog two doors down which is just left in the garden of an empty house. The house was bought to be renovated and the owners spend half their time in Spain, so it seems like this dog has been "moved in" as a guard dog. It barks all day and into the night, every day and night (clearly distressed).

The neighbours have filed noise complaints, but as always with these things it's never considered urgent, especially "in times of Covid where everyone avoids doing anything they can, especially if it involves going 'outside and into the public domain'.

We've been thinking about throwing bones and the like over the fence to try and give the dog something to do/eat in the hope it will shut the fuck up (sometimes it's still going at 3 and 4 am). Occasionally (once or twice a week) it appears someone turns up, does something, the dog stops for a few hours, and then it all starts again. Relentlessly.

What say the wise sages of WHO with respect dealing with this?

Is it being fed and watered? Has it got shelter? Call the RSPCA. If the dog is distressed, it isn’t the dog’s fault and the RSPCA will take the dog and, ‘hopefully’ take the owners to court.
Oh and..,.FMOB, but there are some stupid and cruel comments on this thread.

Alf's 3:31!

Call a good dog rescue center, prob not the RSPCA as they get a lot and I believe put down the ones that have problems or are difficult to re home.

There are some proper hard cunts on here.

Ended up getting a shock collar for my first GSP as a final resort after getting advice from a plod sniffer dog trainer worked a treat, don’t need it now.
Recently got another gsp bitch she’s the bollocks 7 months old training with rewards is working a bit and recall is quite good, hopefully the “training collar”won’t be required this time round.

Re: Dog barking being left in garden of empty house...what to do?
I'm a soppy sentimentalist when it comes to dogs.

If I was close to retiring, I'd give this dog a home miles away from where it is, so the owners wouldn't have a hope of finding it.

Unfortunately, 75 is my target retirement age.

Re: Dog barking being left in garden of empty house...what to do?
Let it out of the garden, remove it's collar, then take it to a rescue centre saying that it's a stray. Strays get first dibs.

Then, when the owners return, take a claw hammer and put it through the cunts skulls.

If arrested, say you were at a WHO slurps, and we'll all give you an alibi.

What breed of dog is it and is it male or female?

If its been used as a guard dog, you need to be careful how you approach

"I think the electric shock collars are banned in the UK."

I'm almost sure you''re right. And that's the way it should be.

Re: Dog barking being left in garden of empty house...what to do?
Is it an option to befriend the dog and spend a bit of money?

Get to know the dog a bit give it some food pat it etc. when you know it, buy an anti-barking dog collar and fit it to the dog every evening and take it off every morning. Almost immediately it won’t bark at night, but give it a week, max two and won’t bark any more at night when you stop putting the collar. If after a few weeks it starts again, repeat put the collar during the nights, until completely trained not to bark at night.

A new dog I got convinced to take on (sad story) wouldn’t shut the fuck up at night. I had do three periods with the anti-bark collar and it doesn’t bark at night any more.

The anti-bark collar I used sprays citronella towards the dogs nose, others make high pitched noises or give electric shocks. I think the electric shock collars are banned in the UK.

Do you have to give your details?
If not, tell the RSPCA you're reasonably certain it's being beaten.

Move it into your own garden and see how every one else likes it .

Some odd people get dogs.

If you're not willing to enough time with them so that they're only on their own for short periods, don't get one.

I'm not getting one until I retire, because I know that I'd have to leave it on its own for too long.

And I really miss having one.

I'm loving Tonka's idea.

Dogs have been silly money during lockdown so here's a chance to make a new friendship and get an animal out of a shitty life.
